“So diverse, and so unique”, the first thought that comes to my mind every time I immerse myself in the Multi Culti experience. A Montreal native art cult that gathers its influences from all over the planet (and perhaps beyond), Multi Culti is one of very few music collectives out there that succeeded in standing out so distinctively in the big artistic clutter we currently live in. Since the conception of AIM festival in 2015, Multi Culti have been able to grace the attendees with their very own oasis, bringing their magic to the festival year after year, offering a truly special vibe.

Arriving at the stage this year, the feeling of awe and joy wasn’t any different. Unpredictable décor, colours, and the beautiful background of trees on the banks of the Ottawa River. With a 24h line-up starting at noon on Saturday, the music varied from a mystical ambient experience, building its way into quirky psychedelic meditative beats, with no existence of the boundary that is genre.

The crowd was able to enjoy the first 8h with cult leaders Thomas Von Party and Dreems, who set the perfect vibe for Heidi Lawden, Thomass Jackson, and Sabo to do their magic. As the other AIM stages slowly closed down by Sunday morning, the outro to a long 2 days was nothing short of perfect at the Multi Culti stage, which outlasted the other stages and graced us with music till Sunday noon.

We left the party hungry for a lot more, knowing very well that we would never have enough of this truly special world. It’s true, there is no party like a Multi Culti party.

A little background on the cult: Multi Culti was brought to life in 2013 by Thomas Sontag, known as Thomas Von Party, and Angus Gruzman, or Dreems. Both had notable backgrounds in A&R and label management – Thomas with Montreal’s Turbo recordings, and Angus with Australia’s Bang Gang – before joining forces on a project meant to introduce music that is beyond the conventional club techno. Forthcoming releases that we are excited about include an upcoming vinyl-only EP on sub-label CULTED with cuts from Inigo Vontier, Angelina Amor, Youkounkoun and Asa Moto, out the end of August. Later in September, Inigo Vontier and Thomass Jackson join forces on a split EP titled CALYPSO CULT, inspired by their very own Calypso records.

Multi Culti will be having a label showcase at Montreal’s favourite Stereobar this Sunday, August 18, 2019. You do not want to miss this one!
