In our exclusive interview with Shunus, we delve into his artistic path, upcoming projects, and the passions that fuel his creativity.

Your imprint started less than a year ago. What was the driving force behind launching your own label, and how has it influenced your creative process?

Ive always had a very high output when creating music. I wanted an easier and quicker way to release my tracks as while I’ve had many great experiences with labels, so I created I Eat Mangos. Sometimes releases can be held up for months and even years as other labels long wait times to put out music. I want to keep my output fresh at all times and doing it all myself via my own label has enabled that. Creativity it’s allowed me to just focus on making music rather than always worrying about how to pitch a song/EP to a label or my sure my sound fits within a labels sound.

Describe the evolution of your sound. How have your musical influences shaped the distinctive style we hear today?

I’m always looking out for new DJs and Artists to get influenced by. Looking into the use of old and new technologies to help guide a new style. Recently I’ve been going through all the old popular sample CDs from 90s such as the Zero-G series to help under the technical limitations muscians had 30 years ago which shaped their sounds.

Could you take us behind the scenes of your creative process? How do you conceptualize and refine your tracks?

Normally it starts by getting inspire by an element, either a single sound, beat or melody. After finding the the influence it becomes a puzzle to see what other elements can be added to support that idea. It doesn’t matter what the idea is, but it must drive the track and keep it coherent throughout. Be it an interesting chord progression, a random vocal sample or a synth patch.

What can fans expect from your upcoming releases or projects? Are there any collaborations or thematic directions you’re excited to explore?

I continue to release monthly via I Eat Mangos as well as a few releases on other labels. I Eat Mangos will also be working towards it’s second VA release, showcasing other talents around egypt and world wide.

Whats the story behind the mangos?

Haha I eat and drink a lot of mangos. I named a song I Eat Mangos before I created the label, I liked how the name sounded so reused it for the label name.

Beyond music, how do you find inspiration? Are there specific hobbies or experiences outside of the studio that influence your creative output?

I watch a lot of films and that inspire my view of creating even if the topics or content doesn’t directly impact my sound. I’m a big fan of films by David Lynch, Julia Ducournau, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Lee Chang-Doing, Ingmar Bergman to name a few.
