Newspeak’s been on a roll with some incredible bookings recently! Last week, listeners took to the dancefloor to hear the muses of Spanish DJ/Producer John Talabot, followed by the sounds spun by one of today’s frontrunning  deep/progressive house DJs, Cid Inc. If you thought things couldn’t get any better, think again! This Friday, we’re being visited by Tim Engelhardt, one of Germany’s fastest upcoming DJs/Producers, for a masterfully unique show you will ultimately regret missing.

From the release of his first track at the age of 14 (yes, you read that correctly – 14!), to his collaborative EP with Romanian DJ/Producer BOg released just this past March, Tim has captivated listeners, artists, DJs, and Producers from around the world. At the current age of 19, Tim has had a monumental last year as an upcoming industry producer, signing his innovative productions to the likes of world renowned labels such as Bedrock, Innervisions, and Diynamic, and receiving praise from international superstars Dixon, Solomun, and John Digweed.

Raised in a small, rural town outside of Cologne in Germany, Tim draws inspiration for his productions from growing up in a nature-filled, rural environment. The titles to many of his original productions and albums carry heavy, emotional undertones. Take a listen to Tim’s 2016 release of “Vega” (one of my personal favorites), on Einmusika’s label. With just two deep house inspired tracks, “Vega” and “Trust”, we as listeners can get a sense of just how refined, unique, emotive, and multi-dimensional Tim’s music production is.

“Like a march, with a lot of power and clubby vibes. Emotional and uplifting, with classy house structures and a unique build up. “Trust“ is complex and comes with a dreamy atmosphere. The modulations are so clear and passionated, you don’t need any dark vibes to create the euphoria” – Einmusika Recordings on their release of “Vega”.

According to his 2015 EB.TV New Faces interview, Tim doesn’t quite see himself as a techno artist or a house artist, rather, straddling the line somewhere between the two genres. What I really admire about Tim as a producer is that he doesn’t necessarily tailor his tracks to DJs – he’s the artist type, inspired by nature, who sees himself on a deep level within the music he creates and spins. Being the well versed producer that he is, Tim uses ableton as a centerpiece to remixing his own tracks for live sets,  which he will be gifting us with Friday!

If you haven’t yet, you need to visit his soundcloud, where you’ll find a seemingly endless collection of his productions, remixes, and grooving set from across the globe dating back to 2011. How an electronic music artist is able to conceptualize and produce at such a high level and high quantity at such a young age is beyond me! Myself and the rest of the world are watching him create waves across the globe as he finishes recent tours in India and starts off the first leg of his North American tour, where he’s already performed in Miami, New York, DC, and Boston.

With this being the last foreseeable week of abysmal Montreal weather, why not start the real beginning of spring off with an open mind to one of the brightest and youngest DJ/Producers in the electronic music scene, accompanied by Montreal’s very own Jimmy Be and Dexter Crowe? Grab your friends, grab your dancing shoes, and bring an open heart to the dancefloor this Friday. You’ll hear heaps of captivating, upbeat, and innovative music – you won’t regret it!
