At the heart of the Montreal rave culture constellation, an event series hosted by seasoned collectives shines through: the explosive Fragments nights, taking up 18 hours to revolve around our weekend in an immersive outbreak of sound and light.

Strung together with care by AlpaKa Productions and Awsum Kultur, two groups that have demonstrated only the truest of intentions towards making our local nights explorative and unique, this new edition will feature over 14 live acts and DJs, indoor and outdoor shows, live 3D projection mapping, food kiosks and a cool medley of visual and performance art unfolding in an Hochelaga warehouse. The more these communities organize events, the more they think of everything – this one kicks off at 4pm for a free outdoor session, and travels onwards to 10am the following day. We wouldn’t sleep on it just yet…

Fragments notably hosted live sets by Ben Coda and Nanoplex for their memorable bash of 2018. They’ve gathered their forces once more to compose an appealing sonic tableau: Peter Groskreutz [Phobos Records] stands at the helm, navigating a dip techno psychedelia. Germany’s Carbon [Phobos, Jannowitz] will be coasting through the same groovy shadowy realms, while France’s deftly named Le Son du Placard pledges a science-fiction inspired percussive sound. We frankly appreciate this curated trio of international invitees, all three voyagers of obscure rumbling techno nights, yet each one bringing their own gripping personal world as a twist.

Four locals will add flavour to the mix this Saturday, as guests will be able to swerve through the sounds of Zentrix [Zenon Records] after his memorable Illusion set this summer, Orbital Mechanics, who present it best when they say “we offer sound and visual enhancement services for low-earth orbit and deep space exploration”, as well as AlpaKa’s Kozydaign and Awsum Kultur’s Hybriid, (previously Veronika & Oliver) to infuse the evening with sounds from the family. Fragments will also welcome an enigmatic character from Nova Scotia, Foggyswoggle [Techgnosis]. Captaining the visuals, Diagraf and Friggs complement the trip with precision and discovery at the tip of their hands.

Diagraf working his magic

The sets will resonate on a 50,000 Watts Void Acoustics sound system designed to welcome and channel their power. On top of this fiery sound and light programming, a variety of pop up activations made possible by the hard work of local vendors will be present. Breathing life into the night, the craft of live painters, artists, performers, fire spinners, glass blowers and more. Expect art kiosks, a poutine stand, a coffee stand and a fully stocked bar to warm up your dancing bodies.

These activations will make themselves at home for the first chapter of the evening, a free outdoor session welcoming an array of local performances; check out the line-up here:

To be prepared for Saturday, here are the complete Timetables of our Free Outdoor Session. Make sure not to miss a minute of it. 🙂 Are you getting excited ? :-)Pour vous assurer de ne manquer aucune minute de notre menu musical extérieur et gratuit ce samedi, voici le Timetable complet. 🙂 Dans moins d'une semaine. On a très hâte.
